Session 6: A Book of the Dead

Valley promised the party that could keep other treasures found in the Villa, but the party did not loot anything, they grabbed the book and ran.

"Of course, the first session of every week starts with character building. This session started with the return of Timothy, Ejames and Winter. In addition, Lonex, Tober and Sunny Happydagger, joined the party for these adventures.

While they were dining in Smokeless, Valley approached them about a lost book that she knew about, but she was having problems getting past the front door. The party agreed that they would retrieve the book.

They went down into the volcanic tunnels and found a door where Valley had sent them. Surrounded by charred skeletons with pickaxes, the door had no handle and only had an imprint of a hand on a plaque. When Sunny placed his hand on the plaque, the skeletons rose and caught fire, with a single skull floating alone and on fire. In addition, a ghostly woman appeared and screamed. The party struggled with the encounter, discovering a magical effect that made fey (and other outsiders) vulnerable to fire.

After an explosive combat, the party was able to turn the plague and open the door, where a transparent blue humanoid construct greeted them. The humanoid asked them to wait for the master of the house, and after a long rest, the party became suspicious. They found out that the master of the house likely died more than a millennium ago.

Moving on, the party found a shrine guarded by a Gorgon Statue and another blue construct, and later a living quarters with the book that the party was seeking. A magic carpet and another statue guardian defended the book, which the party grabbed and then ran.

The party later found out that the magical effect outside the front door was a zone of hallow or forbiddance, focused on celestials. This caused a problem as every creature touching the book was a celestial, for however long they were touching it. Several party members collapsed to figure this out. But a passing unicorn moved the book past the zone, and the party took a nap before they heard creatures, ghouls, around the corner."

One thing that I am surprised about is the lack of interest in looting in this and last week's party. Valley promised the party that could keep other treasures found in the Villa, but the party did not loot anything, they grabbed the book and ran.
