Session 4: Dance Fever

Like with my playtesters, the Dance Fever adventure was clearly a favorite. The fey duel where people could not affect the opponent lead to appropriate amounts of confusion and chaos and fun, especially when a player character is charmed into being a proxy for the Neogi enemy.

"(Started in Session Three)

A human couple approached the party at a tavern with a job. Their son had gone missing Neverwinter and they are offering 1000 gold pieces to find him. The party suspects contracts, maybe devilish Zhentarim or devilish Dragon Cultists, but are almost beaten to this contract by some Kobolds looking to grow their hoard. After finding a flyer, the party searches out a warehouse dance party.

(Session Four Starts here)

At the designated time, a man(?) in a color-changing tuxedo pastes an image of a golden door on the warehouse door, turning it into a golden door. The man makes them dance to enter. The man is disappointed but lets them in anyway.

The party enters a dance club in a fey realm and starts looking for the kid, Durbin, but he is in the VIP room. The host informs them that only the most interesting party goers make it into the VIP room. One member of the party insults a three-foot ant, and there is a challenge to a “fey duel”, with the following particular rules:

  1. One wins the duel when one's opponent is knocked unconscious. Or loses when one's opponent is killed.
  2. You cannot attack your opponent. You cannot target or catch your opponent in a spell.
  3. You may attack their proxies, once activated.
  4. Your proxies may attack them, once activated.
  5. You may attack your proxies, once activated
  6. Your proxies may attack you, once activated
  7. No one not activated as a proxy may attack anyone or cast a spell, or they shall be banished forever.
  8. Eight, I forgot what eight was for.
  9. It is okay if proxies are killed
  10. Activating a proxy requires affecting them with a leveled spell or limited resource. Or a persuasion/intimidation check DC 10 as an action.

A bear was unsummoned, and one of the party barbarians, compelled by a charm to beat the ranger, mulled killing the party so that the party ranger would win.

As a member of the party mopes, some local black-hatted fey decide that they should beat the happiness back into the party. The music speeds up, and a pit erupts with the black hats violently moshing. Happy with the carnage, the black hats purchased drinks for those that knocked them cold. One party almost dies from the drink, which is a poison to humanoids.

They find Durbin, who does not want to go home or get married. The party refuses to take him to his parents, and his mother is furious, wanting to know how they will survive without the money from the marriage. His father quietly gives the party the money, after asking if Durbin is happy and asking them not to tell his wife.

The party then goes to Phandalin and solves an arson by a doom-seeking Dracolich Dragon Cultist."

The fey duel where people could not affect the opponent lead to appropriate amounts of confusion and chaos and fun, especially when a player character is charmed into being a proxy for the Neogi enemy. The last part was a cheap knock off of the Doom of Cassomir, a Pathfinder Society Adventure I filed the serial number off.
